For Pro Rodeo athletes, an early win not only means an early climb on the table but a more peaceful state of mental health throughout the competition. ProRodeo has highly stressful seasons, and if you lag behind when the season begins, it could get worse for you mentally when it gets to mid-season and could hamper progress even when you are in good form.
The first month of the 2021 ProRodeo season featured 22 competitions, with a total of $1.65 million up for grabs.
With the 2021 season already one month in, here’s a peek into the progress of the athletes and their winnings thus far:
Bareback Riding
Tim Kent. Earnings: $6,618 – the athlete earned $6,068 at the RAM First Frontier Circuit Finals Rodeo in Harrington, Del., which was a little below his 2020 season winnings of $7,806 over the same period.
Jordan Elton. Earnings: $5,829 – the athlete won an impressive clean sweep of all three RAM Badlands Circuit Finals Rodeo rounds and more than doubled his 2020 season winnings of $2,461 over the same period.
Garrett Shadbolt. Earnings: $5,696. Garrett won most of his cash in one clean sweep at the RAM PCFR. Last season, he came in at pos. 20 with $28,466 .
Bull Riding
Dustin Boquet. Earnings: $6,747 – Boquet is hotly heading to his second NFR, and it seems he is not here to play. He earned $4,035 in a split win at the Harrison Roundup Club PRCA Xtreme Bulls.
NATHAN Hatchel. Earnings: $6,500 – the athlete won his cash from a nearly perfect run at the RAM MSCFR.
Clayton Sellars. Earnings: $6,451 – the athlete is riding high to his second NFR and is currently in third place at the three competitions in the 2021 season.
Saddle Bronc Riding
Chet Johnson. Earnings: $5,936 – the 40-year-old athlete has qualified for the NFR four times and won the RAM MSCFR in Hempstead, which gave him a second-place tie.
Tegan Smith. Earnings: $5,897 – Smith, who finished 21st in the 2020 season, won $4,746 in an impressive sweep at the RAM GLCFR.
Cody DeMoss. Earnings: $5,748 – the 13-time NFR qualifying athlete finished 16th in the 2020 season, and this season, he is here to improve on the last one. DeMoss won $3,612 in Waco, $1,109 in Arcadia and picked a further $893 in Denton.
Steer Roping
Garrett Hale. Earnings: $12,436 – the third-time NSFR qualifier, Hale has won money in every steer roping event he has participated in, with his biggest winning at San Angelo with $5,542.
Cole Patterson. Earnings: $11,465 – the last season’s top-placed athlete has continued to perform just as good this year. Patterson has picked up prizes in nearly every event he has been at, with his biggest win in San Angelo at $7,014.
Tony Reina. Earnings: $6,751 – the five-time NFR qualifying athlete and Texas Cowboy has won at least $1,000 at three of this season’s ProRodeo events.
Steer Wrestling
Jacob Edler. Earnings: $7,636 – this first-time NFR qualifier has promised great competition this season. He won two rounds to achieve the average at the RAM PCFR for $5,898 and picked $1,738 at the Waller County Fair and Rodeo in Texas.
Tanner Brunner. Earnings: $5,725 – the athlete heads to his third consecutive NFR and picked $4,003 at the RAM PCFR and $1,723 at the Heart O’Texas Rodeo in Waco.
John Leinaweaver. Earnings: $4,458 – the multi-event Pennsylvania cowboy has won an impressive $4,458 at the RAM FFCFR, which could help greatly in his effort to break through the $10,000 season winnings ceiling.
Team Roping Heading
Cooper White. Earnings: $5,632 – Cooper and his partner (and brother) Tucker won the RAM BCFR and gave the duo a third of their 2020 season winnings of $15,023.
Jake Clay. Earnings: $5,056 – with his partner Brye Crites, Clay earned as much as his entire 2020 season winnings of $6,221 at the RAM PCFR.
Tyler Wade. Earnings: $4,644 – paired with Billie Jack Saebens, Wade narrowly missed his fourth NFR qualification after coming 18th in the 2020 rankings. He won his prize at the Heart O’Texas Rodeo in Waco.
Team Roping Heeling
Tucker White. Earnings: $5,632 – with his brother, Cooper, they won the RAM BCFR and earned a third of their total 2020 earnings of $15,023.
Joseph Harrison. Earnings: $5,603 – Harrison was the 2020 team roping heeling season leader, and it seems he is in form this season as well. he went second at the RAM PCFR with Bubba Buckaloo and won $1,176 with Wyatt Imus in Hempstead.
Billie Jack Saebens. Earnings: $5,065 – the athlete has finished 16th and 19th in 2019 and 2020, respectively. The two-time NFR qualifier has teamed up with Tyler Wade to score his third qualification, and they got a win in Waco.
